A Beginner’s Guide to Chinese Vegetable Spring Rolls

What is a Spring Roll?

Spring Rolls are an appetizer made of rice paper wrapped around vegetables and meat, served with a dipping sauce. They are often confused with the more popular Vietnamese dish, the Pho.

What are the Traditional Ingredients of Vietnamese Spring Rolls?

Spring rolls are a staple dish in many cultures, and Vietnamese spring rolls are one of the most popular versions. The traditional ingredients of Vietnamese spring rolls are rice paper wrappers, vermicelli noodles, pickled carrots and daikon radish, lettuce leaf, fresh cilantro and basil leaves, bean sprouts, fresh mint leaves or coriander leaves.

A Step-by-Step Guide to Making Vietnamese Vegetarian Spring Rolls

The Vietnamese Vegetarian Spring Rolls are a popular dish in Vietnamese culture. The dish is usually presented in a bowl with rice noodles, lettuce, and cucumbers.

There are many variations of vegetarian spring rolls that people can enjoy. One variation includes adding tofu to the filling for extra protein.

This recipe is a fusion of Vietnamese and Thai flavours, and it’s easy to make a vegetarian dish. The spring rolls are stuffed with tofu, shiitake mushrooms, carrots, cucumber and lettuce. They are served with a spicy peanut sauce on the side.

Spring rolls are a popular dish in Vietnam. However, the vegetarian version is a healthier option that substitutes the traditional ingredients of shrimp and pork with tofu and vegetables.

The vegetarian spring rolls are traditionally dipped in a fish sauce-based dressing, which is not vegan or vegetarian-friendly. A famous alternative dressing to use for these spring rolls is the peanut sauce, but it’s best to make your own with just peanuts, soy sauce, water, vinegar, sugar and sriracha hot peppers.

The Vietnamese have been making versions of this dish for centuries. It was initially created with shrimp but when Buddhist beliefs influenced Vietnamese culture they substituted the shrimp for tofu instead.

The ingredients:

– Rice paper, freshly cut vegetables.

– Tofu skin, seasoning (sugar, salt, soy sauce)

– Rice flour or other flour for the dough

– Vegetable oil

  • Finely slice all vegetables.
  • Heat a pan and add 1½ teaspoon oil, add black pepper.
  • Add all other vegetables and noodles. keep sprinkling litter water if needed to cook noodles, but not too much.
  • Add soya sauce and mix well.
  • The filling is ready, now its time to roll the spring rolls :). I’ve used ready-made rolls sheet available in supermarket. Before making rolls. mix tablespoon water and all-purpose flour in a bowl to make a paste. This paste will work like glue to pack our spring rolls.
  • Fold the rolls and deep fry. For details on how to fold, look at the step by step pictures given below.
