Homemade Hot dog Buns Recipe

These hot dog buns are super fluffy and easy to make at home. The same bread dough can be used to prepare the different shapes of bread. These buns are very soft and smooth from the outside and airy inside. I like to have chicken sausage and toppings with onions and pickle. There is nothing like homemade bread. All you only need yeast, flour and egg, and you can make super soft hot dog buns following the instructions given in the recipe.

Tips on Making the Best Homemade Hotdog Buns

  • Use organic flour and fresh eggs
  • If you do not have the stand mixer, you need to knead the dough for an extra 10 minutes.
  • Add sugar if you like bread with a more sweet flavour.

Bread Making 101: Homemade Hot Dog Buns

What are Homemade Hot Dog Buns?

We will be looking at what the difference is between homemade hot dog buns and store-bought. Homemade hot dog buns are super delicious and free of preservatives and artificial ingredients. Home-baked bread is super nutritious and full of flavours. Personally, I find baking is a great stress buster in this pandemic. We can nothing do much about the situation we are all in, but at least we can enjoy the home-cooked meal with our loved ones. Food is keeping us all together.

What are the Ingredients Needed?

All recipes will need flour, salt, active dry yeast, sugar, butter or oil for cooking and water.
You can add in milk or buttermilk for a softer bun and even tangzhong. Check out my bread recipe with tangzhong. Hokkaido Milk Bread – Soft milk toast with a secret ingredient

5 Steps to Make the Perfect Hotdog

  1. Brush garlic butter on the sausage and Grill it on the stovetop( Garlic butter is entirely optional, you can simply grill the buns with the oil)
  2. Now slice the Hot Dog bun in the middle, make sure that you don’t wholly divide the bread.
  3. Add onion and pickle on the top. If you like, you can also add pickled red onions.
  4. Spread the bread with mustard and chilli sauce. If you can handle the spicy, then go spicy with red chilli sauce.
  5. Add wiener and a slice of American cheese( Totally optional)

How to Make Homemade Hotdog Buns

Making Homemade Hotdog Buns

Step One: Prepare the Yeast. Mix water, sugar and yeast in one bowl and let it sit until you see the air bubbles in the mix. This means yeas is active now. I sometimes add a spoon of flour to make sure that it is working as I want.

Step Two: Mix the Dough, slowly start adding the yeat mix and start kneading the dough so that you do not end up adding more water. Sometimes you need more or less water due to different flour type and quality.

Step Three: Let the dough rise. You can also use your oven for good poofing the bread. Just select the lowest temperature and preheat the oven. Then, please turn it off, slide the dough covered with cotton, and keep it inside the oven for one hour. I get the perfect result every single time.

Step Four: Now divide the dough into four equal parts and then start shaping each piece similar to what hot dog buns share. You can simply make a ball and then slightly roll it using your palm on the board.

Step Five: Proofing the bread again for an hour, after an hour egg wash the buns before baking.

Step Six: Put it in the Pan (Or on a Cookie Sheet) and Bake It!
